Ghanaian preacher Prophet Roja recently stirred controversy when he predicted that John Dramani Mahama will seek and win a third term as President of Ghana. The prophecy, made during an appearance on Angel FM / Angel TV, has reignited national debate ahead of the 2028 elections.
Prophet Roja stated with certainty: “I have seen that [Mahama] is going for the third term and he will win the elections, that is that.” He claimed behind-the-scenes negotiations are already underway and nothing can stop the plan once concluded.
The prediction comes despite public assurances to the contrary. In August 2025, Mahama publicly stressed his commitment to Ghana’s constitutional two-term presidential limit, saying he would not run again in 2028.
Meanwhile, senior figures within his party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), have also dismissed third-term speculation, expressing respect for constitutional term limits.
Still, the momentum behind the prophecy cannot be ignored. Some party insiders have recently argued that if the public desires continuity, legal hurdles could be challenged broadly suggesting that the law could be “tested.”
Prophet Roja also advised other potential 2028 presidential hopefuls to hold off on campaigns, claiming their ambitions would be futile if Mahama’s return materializes. He suggested they “save their money for some eight to sixteen years.”
At face value, Roja’s prophecy contradicts the public and legal stance of the president and his party. Implementing a third term bid would require a major constitutional amendment a process that would demand broad parliamentary support and possibly a national referendum.
Whether the prophecy reflects unfolding realities or will remain in the realm of speculation remains to be seen. For now, it has fuelled public debate about constitutional limits, political ambition, and the role of prophecy in shaping national discourse.
